Question

I am filing my 2020 California State taxes. If I have DACA and no health insurance during 2020, will i get penalized?

It depends.

If you did not have health insurance in California in 2020, you will get penalized unless you had the minimum essential coverage starting on January 1, 2020.  Please see the attached link for more information on the penalty amount as it applies to your specific situation.

Covered CA penalty

Please be aware that you may be able to avoid this penalty if you meet certain exemptions as outlined in the following link.  Be sure to scroll down to the section titled Exemptions.

FTB Healthcare mandate
