I received a letter with an increase in my payment to the IRS because of a typo with a S.S. number. Do I need to send in an amendment tax return for correcting this?

There should be a phone number to contact the IRS in the letter you received.  You need to contact the IRS and explain the situation with the SSN that was incorrect and see how they want you to proceed.
