The directions clearly state that I should have the option to file my federal taxes before my state taxes. I do not see the "Here are your filing options" screen to change which is filed.

I was able to get help from a Turbo Tax Specialist. I had to click "File By Mail" in order to "Change" the State Return to "File Later"

I hope this helps anyone else looking to file their Federal Taxes before their State Taxes.

You actually have to file your federal return first.  You cannot electronically file your state return until your federal return is filed.

Please see the link below for more information on how to file your tax return.

Are you not given the option to file both?  Please comment with specifically what is happening so we can assist you.

I am waiting for the "American Rescue Plan" to update for my state. Turbo Tax says I do not have to wait to file my Federal Return and to do the following:

Here’s how to file and skip your state return
  • When you get to, “Here are your filing options”, select Change next to each state return.
  • Check the box for File later.
  • Continue to file your federal return.
  • Keep an eye on your inbox, we’ll send you an email as soon as your state return is ready on our end.

I do not see the "Here are your filing options" or "Change" next to the State return. It moves right onto the screen that asks me if I am ready to e-file both state and federal taxes.
