I am paying alimony based on a court order dated 2014. The original divorce decree was dated 2012. I am now in the process of modifying the order. Can I deduct alimony?

    By default, yes.

However, the modified order could specifically state the new rules apply, so it would not be deductible.

So either way, MAKE SURE you talk to your attorney about it and MAKE SURE the modification addresses it one way or the other.
