1) did you look on Form 1099-R? look closely. different organizations put it in different places on the form

2) look at last year's tax return - it's going to be the same number

It is none digits long in this way XX-XXXXXXX ... if you cannot find it on the 1099-R form then contact the issuer to get that number.

except for W-2s, unless there is federal withholding, any 9 digits that Turbotax will accept will do because if there is no withholding it is not transmitted. that's why on a paper return you're required to attach all forms with federal withholding but not those without except for W-2s
