As suggested above, you'll need to contact the form's issuer -- for example, a casino or racetrack where you've gambled -- to request a duplicate copy if they've already sent you one, or for an original if they haven't.

If this is unsuccessful, you can contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and request that they send you a copy.  The Form W-2G issuer sends a copy of your W-2G to the IRS to report your winnings.  See IRS Tax Topic No. 154 Form W-2 and Form 1099-R (What to Do if Incorrect or Not Received) for more information.

If you have lost your Form W-2G, you can contact the Gambling issuer (casino) and request a duplicate copy. Alternatively, you can contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and ask them to send you a copy.

NOTE: The Gambling issuer (casino) sends a copy of your W-2G to the IRS to report your winnings.

If you know how much the winnings/withholdings  were then you do not need the form ... just say you did not get a form even though you did and follow the screens ... all that is sent to the IRS is a total figure and NOT the form ... having a form screen to enter the winnings is for YOUR use only.

I can't find my w2 want do i do

Are you talking about your W-2 or W-2G?

The advice for the W-2G above needs to be modified for the current situation in which no one at the IRS is answering the phone.

Instead, try to get a transcript online.

Go to the Get Transcript page at the IRS. You will want to ask for the "Wage and Income Transcript". See if you can get it online.

Note that if you are missing your W-2, that you can use this same process to get your W-2 information as well.

Now that I have my transcript, can I ask a follow on question?

Using Turbo Tax, since I still don't have the ADMIN data for the Payer (Federal ID number, address)...is it permissible just to group the winnings into one "Non-W-2G issued" payout, since you say all they want to see is the Dollar amounts match up....I am claiming gambling winnings that match gambling winning reported?

Or should I go through the legwork, past year tax files, to see if I have an archived W-2g and use that admin data?

Gambling losses can only be deducted up to the amount of the gambling winnings. Gambling winnings are reported on Form 1040 Schedule 1 on Line 8 as Other Income. Gambling Losses are reported on Form 1040 Schedule A as a Miscellaneous itemized deduction. Gambling losses are not a one-for-one reduction in winnings. Your total itemized deductions reported on Form 1040 Schedule A must be greater than the standard deduction for your filing status to have any tax benefit.

To enter, edit or delete Gambling Winnings and Losses -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Less Common Income
On Gambling Winnings, click the start or update button

Or enter w2g in the Search box in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to w2g

How do I get tax form from casino winnings?

If you lost or misplaced a W-2G from a casino, you can contact them for a new one. You can also Get a Transcript from the IRS, which will show the details of the W-2G. The casino sends a copy of your W-2G to the IRS to report your winnings, so they will also have this on file.

Once you receive your W-2G, you can enter it by following the steps below:

  1. Click on Federal Taxes on the left-hand side
  2. Click on Wages and Income
  3. Click on I'll choose what I work on
  4. Scroll down to Less Common Income
  5. On Gambling Winnings, click the start or update button

Lastly, gambling losses can only be deducted up to your gambling winnings. In addition, they will only be deductible on your return if you itemize your deductions on Schedule

Went through the process to try to get what the casino sent in to the irs (online Bc no one answers). It shows no transcript Bc I’ve not filed. I’ve not filed Bc I don’t have the w2g. Sent 4 requests faxed to the casino (only way they accept requests with fax confirmation)  and NOTHING (one sent in dec, another in Jan, Feb, and again in March). I have no clue what to do now. I don’t want my return rejected.

I would like my W2 from Hollywood Greek town casino

If you are looking for your W-2G which details your winnings from the casino - as the users above are - then you will need to contact the casino directly in order to get a copy.

If you are after your W-2 as an employee of the casino - current or former - then you will need to contact the HR department at the casino to ask them for a copy of it.  Keep in mind that they have until the end of January to provide the W-2 to their employees for 2022.
