Okay and that $500 credit will be on next years tax return ? Even though next year I’m not planning on putting him as a dependent? Because I haven’t received any extra $500 and he does qualify

The $500 credit for other dependents you got on your 2019 return reduces any 2019 tax liability you had.  It is not a refund.  You will not be getting any money back for claiming your father--not on a tax return, not from the stimulus money.   That credit is a non-refundable credit.  If you owed any 2019 tax it could be reduced by up to that $500.

(The tax return most recently filed by everyone is your 2019 tax return--not 2020)

If you claimed your father as a dependent on your tax return he will not receive a stimulus check.  Anyone who is claimed as a dependent does not get a stimulus check.  You say you claimed him--do you pay for over half of his support?  Does he meet the criteria to be claimed as a qualifying relative for you?

WHO CAN I CLAIM AS A DEPENDENT?

You can claim a child, relative, friend, fiance (etc.) as a dependent on your 2019 taxes as long as they meet the following requirements:

Qualifying child

• They are related to you.

• They cannot be claimed as a dependent by someone else.

• They are a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or   Mexican resident.

• They are not filing a joint return with their spouse.

• They are under the age of 19 (or 24 for full-time students).

    • No age limit for permanently and totally disabled children

They live with you for more than half the year (exceptions apply).

Qualifying relative

• They don't have to be related to you (despite the name).

• They cannot be claimed as a dependent by someone else.

• They are a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident.

• They are not filing a joint return with their spouse.

They lived with you the entire year.

• They made less than $4200  (not counting Social Security)

• You provided more than half of their financial support. More info

When you add someone as a dependent, we'll ask a series of questions to make sure you can claim them.

No, you do not get $500 stimulus money for claiming your dad.  Parents get $500 for children under the age of 17.  You do not get any stimulus money for claiming an adult as your dependent.  What you "got" was a $500 credit on your tax return for claiming him.
