My daughter and her son have lived w me for over a year after separating from her husband. I claimed both her and my grandson as dependents since I provide all their financial support. I accidentally put her maiden name under her ss# not even thinking about it. The return was accepted but since we claimed EITC there is a hold until 2/27 ..how can I change her name after it's been accepted and still get the return back by the end of the month?

You cannot make changes at this time. After you click Transmit Returns Now, your e-file goes to pending status, where it will stay until it's either been accepted or rejected by the government.

Think of pending as "in transit" or "in limbo" – just like you can't cancel a letter that you sent yesterday, you can't cancel a return that's on its way to the government.

To make corrections or changes to your return, wait until your return's either been accepted or rejected.

    • If your return gets accepted, you'll need to amend (please note that the ability to amend will not be available until early February, please do not attempt to amend before then).
    • If your return gets rejected, you'll be able to make your changes before you re-submit your return.

Amendment instructions can be found here when they become available for 2017 (early february):  https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3288565
