Question

I claimed my two children in my 2020 taxes. This year, one of my child lived with his mother. How do I claim only the other half of the $1800? Is not giving me an option.

The advCTC for 2021 was $3600 for 2 children. However, this year I am only claiming one. TurboTax is calculating $3600 as total of (1) child so it is not giving me the extra $1800 for the one child.

Did you get the advance payments for 3600?   If you already got 3600 (even though it was for 2 children) you got the full amount for the one child you are claiming now.  It really goes by the number the number of children on your 2021 return.  Or would you rather pay back the $1,800 advance you got for the child you aren't claiming this year?

The child tax credit you received was for 2 kids and you are only claiming one kid. Then there is no money left to claim, you got the entire $3,600 already.
