Question

I did not pay taxes on my unemployment, but I put down I received it. Will the government just take the taxes out themselves? I see that I am getting a refund.

Did you enter the amount of unemployment compensation you received here:

Federal>Wages & Income?Unemployment>Unemployment Benefits on Form 1099G

If you did that, then the unemployment was included in the calculation of  your 2019 refund or tax due already.

Yes I did, so they must have just decided to give me a refund based on that information. I was just confused because I thought I’d have to pay them since I chose to not have taxes taken out of the checks.

Did you enter a 1099G for it?  It should be on Schedule 1 line 7 which goes to 1040 line 7a.  Is it there?
