You are not required to enter an ID card to e-file your federal return.  It adds extra security but is not required.  There are a few states that are very picky about the use of a state driver's license or state ID in order to e-file the state---if your state will not allow you to e-file then print, sign and mail your state return.

As stated by @xmasbaby0 you can file your taxes without an ID.  The IRS and State tax offices are now asking that tax filers provide their driver’s license or state-issued ID number to help prevent identity theft and fraud, but it is not required in order to file your taxes, for most states.
