Question

I employed a nanny. I recorded the wages & employer taxes paid on my individual tax return. May I report the wages paid as dependent care expenses too?

3rd Party company that managed our nanny payroll and taxes filed and paid taxes for me. I recorded my employer tax payments and wages paid. However, I see there is a place to add dependent care expenses. Since the care was for my child, shouldn't I be able to log that amount there for 2441 or does the schedule H and schedule 2 include that?

Yes, you can use that for the credit.

Schedule H is for reporting the Nanny taxes paid.

You can use the expense you paid towards a Child and Dependent Care Credit.

TurboTax Tip

“Household employers, on the other hand, can qualify for the Child and Dependent Care Credit.

For 2023, this credit can reduce the cost of childcare expenses from hiring a nanny and can be worth as much as 20% to 35% of up to $3,000 of childcare or similar costs for a child under 13, or up to $6,000 for two or more dependents.”
