Question

I file my federal and nys tax retrn via tt

When I open the tt file my state info is OK, my federal data is "missing".

I upgraded my computer after filing my return. I should have some 20 years of tt files--I don't see them.

No files were erased when I upgraded.

I do have a pdf of my filed return for 2021, so getting federal 2021 back via tt is not a super necessity, but it would still be "nice" to see it via tt.

If you used desktop software downloaded/installed from a CD to your own computer, then the tax files are stored locally on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.  They are not stored online.  If you cannot recover them due to a hard drive failure, etc. you can get a free transcript from the IRS or for a fee of $43, an actual copy of your tax return.
