I filed as a single and not head of household. Does that make a difference?

If you filed as single and could have met the criteria for filing as head-of-household (HoH), you would have realized more tax benefits filing as HoH.  A head-of-household filer has a larger standard deduction and lower tax rates compared to a single filer.  I have included a LINK here that gives you the criteria for filing as head-of-household.  If you meet the head-of-household test and have already filed your taxes, you might consider amending your 2016 taxes when the TurboTax amend software becomes available in mid-February.
