Question

I filed my taxes already. Didn't know I would have unemployment paperwork coming. How can I add my unemployment to my taxes and will it hurt me if I can't

If you already filed your tax return, you must wait to see if if is IRS Accepted or IRS Rejected.

If IRS Accepted, then you would need to file an Amended return in the software to add the  unemployment income after you receive your refund.

If IRS Rejected, then you can open your return back up and add the  unemployment income to the return and get the return ready to efile again, as long as all your income and deductions are now included in the return.

If the return has been accepted, you must amend your return to add the additional income so you are claiming all the income for the year, which is an IRS requirement.

If you do not amend to add the income, then IRS will send you a letter of adjustment at a later date and you will owe penalties and interest on the balance due until it is paid.
