I gave many items to an auctioneer who gave me a check in return. They were from my mothers estate. I received a check for $5,000. Do I claim it?
It would take me weeks to try and determine fair market value if I even could.
If these items were inherited from your mother, you do not need to report the proceeds on your tax return.
