You will need to file an amended return and add the income from the Lottery Winnings. This may result in you having to pay back some of your refund.

You may also take a deduction for Gambling Losses up to the amount of Gambling Winnings if you paid enough of the items below to be over the Standard Deduction or adding the Gambling Losses may put you over the amount of the Standard Deduction.

The Standard Deduction for 2019 for someone who is Single is $12,200, Head of Household $18,350 or Married Filing Joint $24,400.

Itemized Deductions include property taxes paid, state income tax or sales tax paid, mortgage interest, medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of all of your income, charitable contributions and gambling losses up to gambling winnings.

If you took the Standard Deduction before and paid some of the above items, adding your gambling losses may add enough so that your Itemized Expenses would exceed your Standard Deduction.
