Question

I got a letter saying I needed additional information, then another saying they were changing my filing status and I had to pay. If I pay will I get my return still?

If the letter you received from the IRS makes changes that result in a tax owed and you have not received your refund then you will not receive a refund.

If a refund was issued and you just have not received it yet, the letter will show that refund amount as part of the calculations.

You need to carefully review the letter/changes recommended by the IRS. You have the option to agree or disagree with the changes along with instructions on how to proceed for each option.
