Question

I got a qualifying propane boiler system installed in my primary home in 2023. IRS says I get a $600 tax credit. Why does TurboTax tell me it doesn't qualify?

Propane boiler system is highest efficiency available.  Home is in the US.

The credit is 30% of the total costs up to a maximum of $600. However, the credit is a nonrefundable credit. Nonrefundable tax credits can reduce the amount of tax you owe, but they do not increase your tax refund or create a tax refund when you wouldn’t have already had one.

Your federal tax liability amount is found on Form 1040 (line 24).

To preview your 1040:

On the menu bar on the left,

 

  1. Select Tax Tools 
  2. On the drop-down select Tools 
  3. On the pop-up menu 
  4. Select View Tax Summary 
  5. On the left sidebar, select Preview my 1040
