I had to mail my federal returns, but my state (NY) returns require me to e-file, yet it's not letting me because the IRS has not accepted the returns yet. What can I do?

I just mailed the federal returns today, ETA is /Monday, 4/18. Do I have to wait until the IRS accepts my returns so I can then e-file my state returns? It is stated that since I used software (TurboTax) to prepare my returns, NY requires me to e-file.

Since the federal return was not e-filed the state return cannot be e-filed.  The state return can only be printed and mailed.

New York only requires an e-filed tax return if the software you are using supports e-filing.  The software does Not support e-filing of the state return.
