Question

I have 2 W-2s from the same employer. They both have the same EIN number, but have different amounts. Also, one of them matches my gross year to date. Should I add both?

If you are not sure what the other W-2 represents, contact your employer first for clarification. The second W-2 could be a correction, (usually will have the checkbox "Corrected" marked). It could also be third party sick leave; this happens when they pay you for absence on medical leave. Sometimes they issue a second W-2 for overtime, or for other projects within the company that have a different tax designation.

After verifying with your employer, if the second W-2 is correct, enter both forms separately. Don't add the amounts, even if they have the same EIN.
