Question

I have a 1099, which is more likely to be a hobby income. Is premium version enough to do this?

As long as your income is from a hobby and was in no way intended to make a profit, you can report the 1099 as other income.

Hobby versus Business comparison

You will not be able to claim any expenses.  The only way to claim expenses is to classify your income as being from a business and upgrading your version of the software.

You would enter the information as follows:

  1. Log into TurboTax and go to the Federal interview section
  2. Select Income & Expenses
  3. Go to the All Income section and select Less Common Income
  4. Select Miscellaneous Income

You will then select Other reportable income to enter your income from your 1099-Misc.  Be sure to mark that it was not earned as part of business.
