I have already filed electronically with my W2 and saved my 1099 to file separately and want to know if it needed to filed together

whose name and ID number is on the 1099?  if it's yours it should have been included when you filed your 1040. Once your original 1040 is processed, you will need to amend it if the IRS doesn't catch the omission and adjust your return accordingly. The IRS may send you a notice about the e1099 in which case follow what it says.

if the 1099 is in the name and EIN of an S-Corp of which you are a shareholder, the S-corp needs to report it on its return. (If you are doing it, you need a separate app for the business return either an online version https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ppc/4940/?_gl=1*1vmtcsl*_up*MQ..&gclid=6694951402341b9dd38bf2a93ad00b28&gclsrc=3p.ds or desktop version https://turbotax.intuit.com/small-business-taxes/cd-download/   It issues a k-1 which should have been included on your 1040 return so you will likely need to amend it once it is fully processed.

if the 1099 is in the name and EIN of a C-Corp it only gets reported on that return. nothing is reported on your 1040
