I have always filed as head of house hold but this year it prompted me to file as single, why is that?

Did you enter any dependents?

If you qualify as Head of Household, when you enter your filing status (single or married filing separately) into Personal Info, and then enter your qualifying dependent, TurboTax will offer HOH as your filing status.

You only can get Head of Household filing status if you are eligible

See this TurboTax support FAQ for HOH - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/family/help/do-i-qualify-for-head-of-household/01/25539

If you entered your child but said you did not provide more then half their support or that they did not live with you for more then half the year it would not allow them as a qualifying person so go back and make sure you entered those questions correctly in the personal information section.
