I have had healthcare coverage from my employer for the past 22 years (nothing has changed). This year it says I have a penalty. Why and how do I correct it?

There is no penalty on the federal tax return for taxpayers without health insurance, but certain states do require taxpayers to have health insurance coverage, otherwise, a penalty applies. It depends on which state you reside in, you may need to answer a question regarding your health insurance coverage. Here is a screenshot for taxpayers who file CA state return:
