I have our joint return nearly completed. however, my wife thinks this year we might be better off filing separately. so, I'd like to create 'what if' versions... how to?

In order to do so, you would need to create new separate accounts, with different emails and new user id's. This would be the only way to not erase all of your information and have to complete the returns over for whichever version you choose to file.
