Question

I have to mail my taxes. My state forms have "do not mail, efile only". They have been this way for almost a month. Can someone advise?

We'd love to help you complete your tax return, but need more information. Can you please clarify your question?  What state?

There are two possible scenarios.

1.  You printed your MD state return prior to going through the filing interview section and electing to mail your state return. If this is the case, when you sign in to your account, you will see the option to finish and file.  Try going through the filing steps and when asked, be sure to select that you are filing by mail.  During that interview you will have the opportunity to print your return for mailing.

2.  You actually completed the filing interview and e-filed your returns prior to printing.  If this is the case, when you sign in to your account you will see pending or accepted or rejected.  Typically in this case you will not be mailing your return since you have already e-filed.

  • If pending, you must wait for acceptance or rejection.
  • If your return is rejected for some reason you will be able to make any updates/corrections and then go through the filing steps and this time elect to file by mail.
  • Once your e-filed return has been accepted you must wait for it to process.

The same print mail option was missing from my screen after I E-File Federal and it was accepted by the Feds. The only option it was giving for state filing was to e-file or print and save for later.  this caused an afternoon of frustration, I decided to go back to the FILE tab and selected the option file by mail I decided to do this even though I already E-filed.  It was at this time I was able to select do not print Federal,  and there was also an option to file state taxes by mail.   I have been using turbo tax for Years and have never run into this problem filing.  I hope this helps anyone in the same situation.
