I have two adult dependents and they did not live with me at all. TurboTax keeps changing my answer from zero to six. How do I fix this glitch?

Whether or not they lived with you for 6 months does not go on your return.  If these are dependents that do not have to live with you for at least 6 months but you still provided over half of their support and they meet the rest of the criteria for you to claim them when they do not live with you, this is a programming thing that allows TurboTax to still enter them as a dependent on your return.

This worksheet is NOT sent to the IRS. It is a form that is "Keep for your Records" worksheet.

The IRS will still get the correct information on your return.

You say you have two adult dependents but do not mention who they are.   Are they related to you?  Who are they?  How old are they?   What income--if any---did they have?   You are not providing enough information for us to help you.

    Thanks, Vanessa,

I knew it wasn't affecting the return, I just didn't see any explanation of why it was entering an incorrect answer to the question. I checked last year's TT file and it's the same (bogus) answer. So small I didn't see it was a "6" and not a "0."

Reckon I'll delete the dependents as they're not coming back any time soon.

    Cheers,

Yes, if you do not plan to claim someone as a dependent, it is always best to delete them from your return for the year you are not claiming them.  You can always add them back in future years.

Also, if they were not eligible dependents last year and you did claim them, you may need to Amend Your Return for 2023 to remove them.
