Because they're charging me over $2,000 and they said I need to switch it from head of household to single with a dependent

we have no way of knowing if the IRS is correct in saying you don't qualify as HOH. The IRS can make mistakes

you can use this IRS website to check

    https://www.irs.gov/help/ita/what-is-my-filing-status

just as an aside, the tax rates for a person filing as single are higher than those filing as head of household. in addition, if you use the standard deduction, it's 21900 for HOH but only 14600 for single. thus, not only would the tax rates on your income be higher but you would also have a higher taxable income

if you don't qualify for HOH to change to single type "personal" - no quotes - in the jump to box then click on the personal wks  and change HOH to single. Turbotax selected HOH based on info you entered about your dependent and yourself. therefore, there is something wrong in either your info worksheet or the dependent's. we have no access to your return.

for example, to claim HOH the child must be a blood relative. this includes stepchild and foster child if you can claim them as a dependent.

if you have further questions post back in this thread so we can follow what the issue seems to be
