Question

I keep getting my e-file rejected stating that "form 8962 or a binary attachment with description containing ACA Explanation must be present in the return.

I have gone through the "fix it now option three times and Turbo Tax does not seem to fix it. Tried help, which asked for error code which is "F8962-070" and help did not recognize this code. Any ideas?

You are getting stuck here because the IRS believes you or someone on your return received health insurance through the marketplace in 2021. This may be the case if you or someone in your family is listed as a covered individual on someone else's insurance, even if the main individual is not on your tax return. If anyone in your family has an account on Healthcare.gov, they will want to check to verify there is no 1095-A for 2021. If no one in your family was covered by marketplace insurance at any point in 2021, this workaround has worked for some:

  1. Click Deductions and Credits
  2. Scroll down to Medical and Click Show More
  3. Click Start or Revisit next to the ACA
  4. As you walk through the questions, you will be asked if you received a 1095-A.  If you did NOT, click YES.
  5. Enter 0's for the Marketplace identifier and Policy number.
  6. Enter $1 for January monthly premium amount and SLCSP
  7. Continue to the end and submit your return. 

Entering $1 for your January premium will not impact your return and it should get past the IRS automatically rejecting it for not having the marketplace forms attached to your return.

The Marketplace identifier box does not like the zeros.  What else can I try?

You can use your 2 letter state abbreviation as the marketplace identifier.
