Question

I live in Alabama and work in Georgia. My tax credits from GA are more than my tax due to AL but turbo tax is not using the full credit and causing me to owe taxes. Why?

I only have one job. All of my income comes from Georgia. I have never paid Alabama taxes in 15 years. Same pay and taxes as last year but now it is telling me I owe Alabama $600.

Just to clarify, did you prepare your nonresident tax return first?  You are correct that your results as described are not as expected.  @dtchaffin1234

Yes, I completed my federal return and my Georgia return prior to Alabama. I even deleted the Alabama return and did it a second time with the same results.

I actually went to a different tax website and did my taxes there just to compare. The federal and the Georgia results were exactly the same as Turbo Tax but the Alabama results were completely different.

In Turbo Tax I owe Alabama $600.

In other tax websites I owe Alabama nothing.

We are not aware of a problem with AL. Would you mind giving us a token so we can investigate? It takes out your personal information.

  • If you are online, go to tax tools>tools > share file with agent > 6 digit number pops up.
  • If on desktop, go to online >send tax file to agent > number pops.
