It is too late to e-file an extension request. You had to do that by April 15, 2025. You can still mail an extension request until midnight May 1:

You have to print it out and file it by mail. And it has to be postmarked today!! You only need to file Form 4868 if you want an extension through 10/15/25. You can print the form below.

If you live in a qualified disaster area and you file between 04/15/25 and 05/01/25, the IRS will not impose a penalty. If you need an extension through 10/15/25, you must file the extension on paper. See Further Tax Filing Extensions Available
