If you’re indicating “Federal Service Date,” your federal service date is the date on which you started employment with the federal government.

Federal law prohibits states from taxing pension benefits for non-residents earned after 1995, so the TurboTax program is asking this question to determine the state taxability of your federal pension income.

If you’re asking about “Federal Service To Date,” please reply and indicate whether you’re working in your state return, what the screen name is, and any other information that could help us identify the issue.
