I’m going to be 17 on February 22 ,I would like to file my own income tax with turbo tax but my mom is claiming me as a dependent and she is filing with Jackson Hewitt , can I still file my taxes

Yes, you can file your own tax return, but you will need to indicate that you are being claimed on someone else's return as a dependent.

You will do this in the My Info section of TurboTax.  Answer these two questions as YES:

  • Someone else can claim me as a dependent on their tax return (answer YES)
  • And this person will claim me on their 2018 tax return (answer YES)
