Question

I’m only getting back 1000 for my child. When normally people get back 3-4,000. Why is that?

The reality is that each family's tax situation is unique. Families earning the same dollar amounts can pay vastly different income tax rates, depending on the particulars of their family and where their income comes from.

Probably you are talking about Child Tax Credit. Each qualifying child you claim on your tax return can put up to $1,000 in your pocketWhat is the Child Tax Credit?

If you paid for a dependent's care so that you could work or look for work, you might get Child and Dependent Care Credit What is the Child and Dependent Care Credit?

Depend on your income you might be entitled to Earned Income CreditWhat are the qualifications for the Earned Income Credit (EIC or EITC)?

This is the most common tax credits you may benefit from.
