Solved

I meet requirements for 1040A, but site says: Based on what you told us, Form 1040 (long) is required ... which is covered by Deluxe. No explanation why. Bait-and-switch?

You should be able to get an exact reason why the full Form 1040 has to be used by following these steps -

  • Log into your account and click Take Me to My Return (you must click this first to get Tax Tools to show)
  • On the left-hand side of your screen, you should see an option for Tax Tools and a drop-down menu
  • Select Tools
  • Click View Tax Summary
  • You can see what form you are filing and a description why on the Review Tax Summary page under "Which Form 1040 Do I need to file?" at the very bottom of the page (see screenshot)
