You will need to type in "Injured Spouse" under Search.  Here are the steps:

In TurboTax online,

  • Sign into your account, select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box, type in injured spouse and Enter
  • Select Jump to injured spouse
  • On the Innocent or Injured Spouse Relief screen, answer Yes and continue
  • Follow prompts. ( Skip the screens related to innocent spouse)

An injured spouse is somebody who seeks to protect his or her share of the joint refund in case it gets seized or offset due to the other spouse's debts or unpaid obligations.  You are aware of your spouse's debt. You will need to file a Form 8379 Injured Spouse Allocation.

In contrast, you would file an innocent spouse claim when you are unaware of your spouse deliberately under-reported their tax liability and your spouse's debt or unpaid obligations.  By filing as an innocent spouse (Form 8857), you can be protected from additional taxes, penalties, and interest when the IRS later finds out about the unreported income.
