I need to transfer 2023 return with data to new computer running windows 11. So far every time i try to open the 2023 reurn on new computer it fails to open.

To open the 2023 tax data file, which has a file extension of .tax2023, it must be installed on the same computer as the TurboTax software for 2023.

When you start the 2023 TurboTax desktop edition, click on the File menu at the top of the desktop program screen.  Click on Open Tax Return.  The software will show a list of all the 2023 tax data files it found in the TurboTax folder within the Documents directory.  If the 2023 tax data file is not found then you need to browse to where you copied the 2023 tax data file on the new computer.

Do you really need to open the 2023 tax return in the 2023 software? If you just want to transfer information from 2023 when you start your 2024 tax return, you don't need to have the 2023 software installed. The 2024 software will transfer data from the .tax2023 data file.

AND...if you did install the 2023 software in your new computer?

If your tax file has a state in it????  You may not be able to open that 2023 tax file until the 2023 tax software has been fully updated ......AND the state you need must be installed before you open that tax file.
