Question

I owed the IRS $419 for federal balance but my accountant that I paid to do my tax refunds are telling me that because I make less than $10000 a year I dont have to pay.

The IRS charged me anyways the $419. I tried calling the accountant but he is ignoring my calls. What do I do?

You'll have to keep calling the account for that...but they may be really busy this time of year.

 

Even if your income was below 10,000, you could owe $$ if it was cash/self-employment income.  SS/Medicare taxes can be assessed, even if no "income" taxes are due.  But that really depends on your exact situation.   So maybe you did owe the IRS those $$.

 

IF the accountant/tax preparer did tell you not to pay, and you did end up having to pay the IRS, then you'll have to take it up with them.
