Question

I paid extra money for taxes above my W2, where do I put that in turbotax to account for it?

So it will reduce my tax due and take that money into consideration.

Did you make some quarterly estimated payments or did you pay with an extension to file?  They go in different places.

To enter Federal or State Estimated Taxes Paid, including a state estimated payment made in January for the prior year, go to

Federal on left or at top (Personal for Home & Business)

Deductions and Credits at top

Then scroll way down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid

Estimated Taxes - click the start button

Do not enter them as Other Federal Withholding!  Only enter them in one place.

For 2021 Federal Estimated payments should be on 1040 line 26.

FOR EXTENSION

To enter the amount you paid with an extension (including state extension)  go to

Federal Taxes (or Personal for desktop H&B version)

Deductions and Credits

Then scroll way down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid

Other Income Taxes - Click the Start or Update button

Next page second section Payments with Extension

Either Visit All or Click Start or Update by the extension you paid
