Question

I received a 1099-MISC form from a company I never dealt with. I have never done any consult work and I never received any money. what should I do?

Again, I never did consulting, I never received a direct deposit or cashed any checks, I did not receive any money at all. Now they are reporting that I did get money when I did not. Please help!

Contact the sender of that 1099-MISC for an explanation. Hopefully you are not the victim of Identity Theft.

Thanks! I did contact them and they looked into it and found that it was issued in error! Whew. I was hesitant to contact the number provided on the 1099-MISC because I was concerned this was all a scam. Luckily I was able to google search the main company, call the main number and utilize the same extensions to get to the same person (as when calling the number provided on the 1099).
