I received a 1099-R for my deceased father from his military pension as an arrears payment that was due to him. is this something I claim?

Yes, if the 1099-R came in your name and Social Security number.

 

If he passed away during 2019 and the 1099-R is issued in his name and Social Security number you may need to file a tax return for him.

 

Any income he receive prior to his passing needs to be claimed on a tax return for him.
