Please clarify your question. What amount seems larger than what other amount? Where do you see the two amounts that you are comparing?

Usually the IRS will send you a letter explaining what the refund was for. You might not get the letter until two or three weeks after you got the refund.

When did you file?  Did you file before the 10,200 unemployment exemption?

If you filed early before the exclusion, the IRS will recalculate your return for the new 10,200 unemployment exemption for you. There is no need for taxpayers to file an amended return unless the calculations make the taxpayer newly eligible for additional federal credits and deductions not already included on the original tax return.

If your original tax filing did not include the $10,200 unemployment deduction, it is not unusual to get a 2nd refund.  The deduction, if you claimed it,  would show on  line 8 of Schedule 1.

As @VolvoGirl  said, If you filed early before the exclusion, the IRS will recalculate your return for the new 10,200 unemployment deduction and automatically send you an additional refund.

Just wait before cashing the check to be sure. Within the next 5-7 business days you will receive a 2nd letter from the IRS informing you they sent you a check. That letter will also explain what that check was for.
