A stimulus payment to a deceased person has to be returned.

 

In the top right corner of the envelope that the check came in, there is a box that says if the recipient is deceased check the box and drop it in a mailbox. Check that box and drop the envelope with the check in a mailbox.


If the payment was a direct deposit, don't do anything with it. Let the money sit in the account until the IRS provides instructions for returning it. We don't know when that will be.
