I received an email for a verification code today that I never request I’m not sure who requested it to access my account

That is not unusual when a new user sets up an account and mistypes their e-mail address and it happens to match yours. Hopefully when then do not receive the e-mail conformation they will realize that they entered the wrong e-mail. That can happen with any online account that uses email which is the reason for the verification - to verify that the email address is correct.
