Question

I received no cost health insurance known as medi-cal. Does this qualify me for tax breaks?

For the 1st time, I seem to owe for federal in the amount of $900. At the same time, I will receive a state refund of about $250. I'm trying to figure out if this is due to not entering the correct information regarding health insurance or a miscalculation of projected income on my employers part.

Medi-cal appears to be a Medicaid program in California. Without seeing your tax return and finances, we could not hazard a guess outside why things had changed. But I would encourage you to keep up with Medi-cal and its rules in case you need to report changes in your income.
