Question

I received unclaimed money from SC state due to an incorrect mailing address. Should I report it as taxable?

I was not involved in the transaction other than my insurance company listed the wrong address and I was not aware that it was lost in unclaimed mail.

It depends.

 

Generally a refund of non deductible insurance premiums or a payment of an insurance claim is not taxable.
