Question

I recently became unemployed during the end of 2017. (I did not collect unemployment). Does that affect my return? Will I have to pay taxes next year?

I did not and am not currently collecting unemployment. I no longer have any income.

It depends- you do have to report your unemployment income and you may have to pay income tax.  The amount of time you spend on unemployment and if/when you do find a job and other income will all affect your taxes for 2018.  You can have the state withhold tax from your unemployment (but you probably need it for living expenses)

I never collected unemployment. I applied for it but was denied. How do I report this information if I have to?
