If you received benefits in the current tax year that were for a prior year, see Publication 915 for rules on a special lump-sum election that you can make. This election may reduce the amount of your taxable benefits.

See TurboTax article What is a lump-sum Social Security payment? for entry directions.

The legal fees paid are part of the itemized deductions on sch A subject to 2% of your income. That section has been suspended until 2025. The legal deduction is not currently allowed.
