Question

I submitted e-file as a first time tax payer. I was rejected for AGI mismatch (I used $0). I am now having to print out and mail returns, but I paid TT fees.

The work around is to mark that you did not file taxes last year and then it will not ask for AGI.  The IRS does not care what you put in that field, but TurboTax asks for AGI as a security measure when you say you paid last year. In your case as a first-time taxpayer there is no AGI on file for the IRS to check and reject your return.  No is the correct response to filing last year for you.

Is it that the IRS doesn't care what's in that field if you're a FIRST TIME tax payer?  I ask because our state taxes were rejected due to incorrect AGI, which would lead me to believe that they do indeed care what's in that field.  Maybe it's different because this user is a first time filer. Please advise...

If you say you did not pay taxes the previous year than the AGI question is not asked,

The fees for the Online version is to prepare the return whether you efile or print and mail.  Efiling is free and included.
